I read a wonderful book awhile back that spoke of the importance of traditions for children. Traditions provide a sense of belonging, excitement, and wonderment. With that in mind, I have been working on giving the traditions our family holds dear the proper attention they deserve. Since, the little ones are getting old enough to start understand more and more it has been important to me to show them why these little rituals are important to our family.
Yesterday, marked the beginning of the advent season, and we kicked off our Christmas traditions with the lighting of the first advent candle. Of course, our little felt wreath required no lighting, but Little Boy got a kick out of sticking the candle of Hope on our wreath. It was just the start the holiday season and enjoy each others' company.
Here is a great link for activities for kids surrounding the advent season. They have everything from creating an advent wreath to the readings the accompany each candle lighting.
