The Price of a Free Sample

Recently, I received some free cosmetics to review.  I tried them out and thought I would share my opinions with you.  Then I started thinking about what was in them and how they were made.  The verdict was not so good, so I won't be sharing them here.

I am amazed that major corporations are still testing cosmetics on animals and freely add toxic ingredients to the mix. I have been purchasing my makeup from Everyday Minerals for sometime and forgot that not everything on the market is natural or humane.  Apparently, I'm not the only one that forgot, since Cover Girl's newest spokeswoman is vegan and was recently honored by the Humane Society for standing up for animal rights.  I won't knock her too much, though.  I almost sold out for a free sample.  I'm sure she was compensated even more for her endorsement.

I encourage you to visit the Cosmetics Database and see if your current cosmetics contain toxic ingredients.  Also, take some time to Search for Cruelty-Free Companies and Products.  There are many widely available products that are made by companies that do not hurt animals.

I'm getting down from my soapbox now.

I have to go wash my face.

I just got a book for Mother's Day - "Look Great, Live Green" by Deborah Burnes about this subject. We are lucky to live near a Henry's Market (which is a health food, organic, farmer's-style market) - so I, too have bought most of my products there. But, I will now be switching my makeup (was still buying that elsewhere) to a much better-for-me-better-for-the-earth-better-for-animals brand. Thanks for your post.

Looks like a great book. I watched the author's video on youtube. She has a great message. And, I can't recommend Everyday Minerals enough if you are in the market for new makeup. Great products and free samples with every order.
